Can You Return Fabric to Joann’s, Walmart, Hobby Lobby?

With so many different fabric selections, patterns, and materials, it can be hard to choose which one is best for your project. So maybe you bought the wrong kind of fabric or decided to go with a different fabric for your project. But since it has already been cut, can you return fabric? Will stores take it back?

Joann, Walmart, and Hobby Lobby are three of the most popular places to shop for fabric. If you’ve bought fabric from one of these stores, the good news is that all of these stores will generally take it back, provided that the fabric is in good condition. However, the return policy is a little bit different for each store.

When returning fabric, it’s important that you have all of your ducks in a row if you want a refund or exchange quickly or easily. In this article, I’ll go over the return policies for the most popular fabric and craft stores. Also we will discuss how to return fabric that you purchased both in-store and online. That way, you know what to expect.

Can You Return Fabric

Can You Return Fabric to Joann?

Joann is one of the most popular places to buy fabric from. They generally have a large and very diverse fabric selection and they understand that the fabric you choose may not always meet your needs. Joann allows you to return any purchase you are not satisfied with, even fabrics that have already been cut.

However, there are some rules and stipulations for returning fabric to Joann. How much money you’ll get back for your return depends on several factors. Let’s look at Joann’s return policy in more detail.

Joann’s Fabric Return Policy

Joann’s fabric return policy is the same as if you were returning other merchandise that isn’t fabric. If you’re returning fabric with a receipt, you’ll receive a full refund in the original payment method, whether cash, card, or Joann gift card. If you paid via PayPal, you will receive your refund on a Joann gift card instead.

However, Joann’s return policy does not specifically state how long you have to return the fabric once you’ve purchased it. Also, if you don’t have your receipt, you may not get the full price refund that you paid for the fabric. It’s best to keep up with your receipt, especially if you spent a lot on fabric.

Joann will also take back fabric that is in sellable condition. That means that the fabric should be in the same state you bought it when you return. If the fabric is dirty, stained, torn, or not all of it is there, then the chances are very high that Joann won’t take it back. Whether you plan to return the fabric in-store or by mail can also affect your refund.

In-Store Returns

The easiest and best way to ensure that you get a full refund for the fabric you purchased from Joann is to return the fabric to the store. You can return fabric in-store even if you purchased it online.

If you return the fabric in-store, you’ll receive a refund for the full purchase price as long as you have your receipt, according to the store’s return policy. You’ll receive the refund either in cash or on a card, depending on how you paid for the fabric. Note that if you paid with a check and the amount was over $25, only $25 can be refunded, which will be given to you in cash.

If you purchased the fabric online but are returning it in-store, Joann can look up your order receipt in their system. But, you’ll need to have your order number, so have it written down or have the email handy.

If you don’t have your receipt, you may not be entitled to a full refund for the fabric. Instead, you’ll only receive the lowest price of the fabric over the last 90 days. That means that if the fabric went on sale within the last 90 days, you’ll receive whatever the lowest sale price for the fabric was. You must also show identification if you don’t have a receipt.

Online Returns

If you purchased the fabric online and don’t want to or can’t return it in-store, you can also return it through the mail. You will need to contact their Customer Care team using the contact form. You will need to select “Return Items” under the My Question tab and you will also need to provide your order number.

Joann will email you a return label and you will be responsible for packaging the fabric and taking it to the post office for return. If you do a mail-in return, you’ll receive the full price refunded minus a $7.95 shipping and processing fee. The money will be refunded in the original payment method. Or, you will receive a gift card in the mail if you paid by gift card originally.

Note that with online returns, there are a few more exceptions. First, you can not return any purchases you made in-store by mail. If you purchased fabric in a Joann store, but the store is a long way from your house, you will need to return it to the actual store if you want a refund. Secondly, you can not return any customizable fabric that you ordered online.

Your refund will be applied to the payment method, either via a credit or debit card or a gift card.

Alternately, you can return online purchases through the mail. You will need to go to your online Walmart account Purchase History or the Start Return Online link. Once you start the return process, you will receive an email to print a return label.

If you return the item by mail, you will need to box up your item. Then, you can schedule a pick-up through FedEx or drop it off at your local post office or FedEx location.

Return Fabric to Hobby Lobby

Hobby Lobby has a return policy similar to that of other stores. They do take returns on fabric, but as with the other stores, the fabric has to be in good condition when you return it. Hobby Lobby Fabric Return Policy

Hobby Lobby’s return policy is very straightforward and simple for purchases you made in store. There are very few rules and stipulations. But as with other stores, they recommend having your original receipt to simplify the process and get your full refund.

There are a bit more rules and guidelines for fabric purchases made online. You can return fabric purchased online either back to the store or by mail-in. However, there are a few more restrictions. Let’s look at how to return in-store and online fabric purchases to Hobby Lobby.

In-Store Returns

Hobby Lobby will accept fabric returns in-store, but you have to do so within 90 days of the date of purchase on your receipt. When you return fabric with the receipt, they will either exchange the fabric, give you store credit, or give you a refund. They will give you a cash refund if you paid with cash or refund the money to your card if you paid with a card. If you paid with a check, you may have to wait 10 days before receiving a refund or they will give you store credit instead.

If you do not have a receipt, Hobby Lobby will allow you to exchange the fabric or give you a merchandise credit. However, you will only be given the lowest price of the item within the last 60 days. You must show your ID when exchanging fabric without a receipt. And of course, the fabric must be in the same condition you bought it in.

Online Returns

There are few more rules with returning online fabric purchases to Hobby Lobby. In most cases, you can return individual items from online purchase to the store, including fabric. You’ll have 90 days to do so. But let’s say you ordered more than $250 worth of fabric and wanted to return it. In that case, you have to return it to hobbylobby.com.

The fabric must be in the condition that you bought it in. But if Hobby Lobby sent you damaged fabric in the first place, you can’t return that to the store either. You must do a mail-in return. You can choose to do a mail-in return for any purchase. But, you’ll have to pay for shipping and handling unless Hobby Lobby sent you the wrong fabric or sent you damaged fabric, to begin with. If the fabric was damaged, you will have to call or email Hobby Lobby before returning the item.

Can You Return Fabric to Michaels?

Michaels

Michaels allows you to return fabric that you purchased either in-store or online. Their return policy is similar to the other stores mentioned, but there are some key differences as well. Let’s look at Michaels return policy.

Michaels Fabric Return Policy

Michaels return policy gives a shorter window to return purchases that you aren’t satisfied with. You only have 60 days to return fabric and other merchandise instead of 90 with the other stores. The great thing about Michaels return policy is that even if you don’t have your receipt, they will look it up to the best of their ability, provided that you have a Michaels rewards number. If they find your receipt, you can still receive a full refund for your purchase even if you don’t have the physical receipt.

In-Store Returns

Michaels allows you to return in-store and online purchases to the store as long as you do so within 60 days. However, your refund will be returned as cash even if you paid with a debit or credit card. If you paid with a gift card, your refund will be issued on a Store Return card. If you return an online purchase to the store and you paid with PayPal, the money will be refunded as cash. If you paid via check, you may have to wait 10 days to receive a refund or have the refund put onto a Store Return card.

If you don’t have a receipt, Michaels will attempt to look up your receipt. This process is made easier if you have a Michaels rewards number. If they find your receipt, the process then follows the procedure outlined above. If they can’t locate your receipt, you will have to show your ID. You’ll receive a refund in the amount of the lowest price within 90 days on a Store Return card, or you may exchange the fabric.

Online Returns

You may return online purchases to a Michaels store. If you choose to do so, the return will follow the procedure above. If you choose to return an online purchase via mail, the process is slightly different.

In that case, you will have to call Michaels Customer Care and speak to an agent. The agent will provide you with a return label sent to your email. You will need to repackage the fabric and attach the return label. Then, you will have to drop the return off at a UPS location to be sent back to the store. Michaels does not specify whether or not you are responsible for paying for shipping the item back to them.

Conclusion

So, there you have it. Fabric can be returned to Joann, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels as long as the fabric is in the same condition that you bought it in.
